Fall Prevention at MVPT

The fear of falling is one of the few innate fears present from birth—and for good reason. It should never be minimized or overlooked when addressing patient care. At MVPT, we recognize the importance of educating patients and actively working to reduce fall risk, thereby preventing potential injuries.

The risk of falling increases naturally with age, and individuals with neurological conditions face an even greater likelihood. That’s why our fall prevention services are specifically designed for those with a history of falls, diminished balance, or limited mobility—individuals who seek greater independence both at home and within the community.

Our approach begins with the development of a personalized fall prevention program, which includes:

  • A comprehensive home safety assessment

  • An initial evaluation of range of motion, strength, balance, reaction time, gait, and ability to perform daily functional tasks

Based on this assessment, the therapist creates a tailored weekly intervention plan to target the patient’s specific needs. A customized home exercise routine is also provided for the patient, their family, or caregivers.

The ultimate goal is to enhance safety awareness and improve the patient’s ability to perform daily activities confidently and independently. Research shows that a home assessment conducted by an allied healthcare professional can reduce fall risk by up to 36% through identification and correction of environmental hazards.
